I'm curious. Who were your favorite characters in Cost of Freedom and what was it that attracted you to them?

I really liked the female characters. Abigail was well written, and Grace, like I said about the orchard scenes had a very calming character. I felt so bad for her. I also really liked Candace. She kept me guessing to the end.

Hi Cale,

LOL, the minute Candace stepped onto the page, she was a force to be reckoned with. I had something totally different planned for her. She was having none of it. Imagine my surprise when I discovered what you discovered!

Grace. How can you not love Grace? She is actually a conglomeration of a few people. Her story is factual, with liberties taken. Her appearance and mannerisms are based on someone I know. And "the scene" (you know the one) was based on my experience with a dear friend and my aunt.

Abigail was a challenge. It was a constant balancing act with her. She was young and naive, yet forced to grow up quickly. Plus, her inner turmoil was always there.

I'm glad all of their attributes came across.

Uh uh! William. Yet to be seen what he truly has to give. He's my favorite. Remember Carol I actually forced you to call me about him? I love the complexity yet to come.

Andi,

LOL. YES! I remember. You were completely on William's side. It's nice to know he has a fan. He'll need you. He is headed for some troubled times in Bound by Honor. Being shot is the least of his worries.

Harrison is my babe!!!! I don't know why I liked him better than William. But I have to yet read the finished book. I've been fighting over the computers with the boys and working on some dumb things.

Hmm, maybe I should answer this thread, too. Very Happy Although William holds a very big part of my heart, I like Harrison. But for favorite characters in Cost of Freedom, I love the growth in Joseph. To me, he showed the greatest change. In the beginning of the book, we see him as wreckless and endangering others' lives. At the end of the book, he is willing to sacrifice his own life for someone else. He came a long way.

I really liked all the ladies especially Candance she really surprised me. You had me there I hadnt picked what she was but things fell in to place in the end with her. I like William and wanted him and Abigail to be together but I also liked Harrison and feel he has something special still to come. There is something about him that I find really appealing.

Something that is endearing about a lot of the characters is their chemistry with each other. I think a good story, even a romantic one, needs all the different kinds of chemistry. Take for instance Harrison and Abigail at the ball when they are dancing. It's great, and I find with my writing that placing a non romantic chemistry between people can be difficult, especially if they are of the opposite sex, and don't have "parent/child" type relationship.

Cale,

I love the dance scene. *sigh* This is when I knew what kind of guy Harrison was.

See Carol, I knew that Harrison would shine for the others. Didn't you all just love the dream scene? When Abigail is dreaming of what really happened when William was being a bully and Harrison comes to her rescue?
