Release date for DD-2 is hopefully any time now.
Cynthia Harrod Eagles wrote a 'Dynasty' series which takes a Yorkshire family from Medieval times up to present day. She's up to WWI at the moment and still going strong. As you can imagine, I love her 17th century books and they were my inspiration.
I am trying to write a 19th century romance to prove I can step outside my comfort zone - and guess what? I'm uncomfortable!
It's a character driven book rather than using an historical event as the skeleton and I've hit the, how do I keep the plot riveting without losing credibility? stage. _________________ Anita Davison

Hi Anita,
I moved this to the time and place thread.
You'll do great with your new wip. 19th century, that's a good time period.
I know what you mean about comfort zones. My first two books are historically based, with romantic elements, but For Mercy's Sake is character driven with a stronger romance. Even though there is a romance element in the first two, it is much stronger in the third.
I think it's good to stretch ourselves.
I love your avatar. _________________ Carol

For me, I love the 1700s. In America, a new country struggled to find her feet while still connected to England, Ireland, and Scotland. Any combination of these four countries combined with the fire of the men and women who shaped them, ah, that's a good read. _________________ Carol

For me, I like anything before the 20th century when it comes to romance. I really don't like modern day romance stories. I don't want to read about today. I live in that. Fantasy books, can't place a time because it is fantasy. Science fiction, in the future of course. Sometimes I like to read non-fiction as well. Non-fiction would be more of the 20th century stuff. _________________ Don't cry if you have lost the sun. The tears won't permit you to see the stars. |

| I love the 18th Century especially later like the 1790's, an interesting time that I think is overlooked. It's too late for the Marie Antoinette and too early for regency. Naturally my first book takes place 1798, but could be a year or two earier/later by the time I'm finished. |

| The story I've got the most done on half written (not finished) starts in autumn 1798 in Brentwood England. It ends Christmas morning 1799. My other book takes place in a fictional Irish kingdom 1226, it's about the fall of the kingdom, explaining why it is no longer in existence. Then there's several other plots that I've written snippets too, mostly conversations, elements. I'll think of exactly how I want it written so I write it down and will incorporate it when I get to them. |

| I can't do Victorian, that's easy for me to decide. I grew up knowing the children of my Victorian great great grandparents and I suppose because I know the deprivation they truly lived with and in, it takes the shine off.... for me it's Elizabethan, post civil war, Georgian, medieval and roman/dark ages! Alot! |
